What are Emotional Freedom Techniques? Emotional Freedom Techniques, commonly referred to as EFT or tapping, is a form of counselling intervention that draws on various theories of alternative medicine, including acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming, energy medicine, and Thought Field Therapy (TFT). EFT involves tapping specific points on the body, primarily on the head and face, while focusing on particular emotional thoughts or physical sensations. This practice addresses negative emotions and physical pain by restoring body energy balance.

Additionally, a study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that EFT can reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, sometimes producing results comparable to those of traditional psychotherapy or pharmacotherapy.
Further studies have shown that EFT may help reduce physical symptoms of psychological stress and can be particularly useful in the treatment of PTSD, suggesting that the method helps modulate the brain's stressor responses.
